Touch Screens & The ADA Bus
Sometimes
a touch screen controls only the entertainement system. But usually, these
devices can be configured to do much more. Custom Command, Crestron, and
AMX offer several touch screen models. Some provde control buttons overlayed
onto real-time video displays. Most touch screens are bi-directional, just
like the ADA Bus keypads. They not only control devices, but are also capable
of displaying feedback, providing the devices they talk to offer feedback.
And when it comes to feedback, ADA is the only manufacturer of multi-room
systems to offer real data feedback of system status.
The ADA Bus is comprised from sets of computer code. In fact, each ADA
system function command rests in RS-232 protocall sentences called "strings".
Each string has anywhre from four to nine bytes of HEX code. And guess what,
HEX code is the common command structure of computers. What makes the ADA
Bus unique is that, not only can you control ADA components by HEX code
strings, but that ADA products actually talk back to the computer in HEX
code strings. This talk back (feed back) permits the receiving computer
system to get complete system status information. From there, the computer
system can display this information on its touch-screen, much like an ADA
keypad displays system status informtaion.
Thus, if you are incorporating touch screens in your home to integrate
various electronic systems (System Integration), then you should really
consider one of ADA's three ADA Bus Systems. Either the Delta, Omega, and
8000 Systems offer true system status feedback which can be displayed in
real time onto the touch screen. Afterall, what is the sence of owning a
touch screen if all it can do is send out control signals without first
varifying whether or not that function is in fact needed. Why have a fancy
heads-up type of display, when you can't even bring up radio stations, component
in play, or volume, bass, or treble levels. With an ADA Bus system, you
touch screen will have the perfect match. Furthermore, since you probably
will have a touch screen in only a handful of locations, you can augment
the control of rooms void of touch screens by providing them an ADA Bus
keypad.
